{Quiet light} Favorites

As some of you know from our latest facebook post, Captivating Radiance will be closing down. It brings me such sadness but at the same time it is needed. My life has been stressful and overwhelming lately and I just can’t seem to keep up. I have enjoyed featuring sooo many talented and inspiring photographers. This may be the end of Captivating Radiance but that doesn’t mean I’ll be completely gone. Feel free to still follow my personal business page to keep up with my latest work. Photos by Eve Rashid. You never know I may start up a new page for us when the time is right! I want to talk everyone that has made this page wonderful. Last but not least check out these gorgeous well deserved images that are featured below!

Artist Feature

Good morning everyone! Today we have Haley from Haley Rosa Photography as our artist feature!! I’m very excited to feature Haley! Her work is so amazing and you’ll want to follow her if you aren’t already doing so! I first noticed Haley’s work when she started submitting to Captivating Radiance when we first opened! Enjoy getting to know your fellow photographer because she is truly inspiring and have a great weekend!

A little about Haley

My name is Haley, and I am the mother of 2 amazing kiddos, Luca (8) and Frankie (4). My husband Peppe and I have been married for 5 1/2 years 🙂 We were born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA.

Can you tell us what photography means to you?

Photography to me, means freezing memories in time. Which when it comes down to it, memories are the best things that you can ever keep with you. It is a complete lifestyle for me, when I am feeling down, getting out and shooting is what brings me up.

What Motivates and inspires you?

My kids and my husband and being a better me… I am always striving to be better than I was yesterday.

Are you in busniess or a hobbyist?

I have been in business now for 4 years.

Can you share with us 5 of your favorite images and tell us why you love them so.

What’s in your camera bag?

In my camera bag I have a canon 5d mark iii… a 50mm 1.8, 35mm 1.4 (which rarely leaves my body) and an 85mm 1.8

What does your editing process look like?

My editing process is fairly simple. I edit with photoshop, and I like to keep things basic, some minor level adjustments in acr… then a few more adjustments in ps. I tend to edit on the warmer side, and like a darker, deeper image

Artist Feature

Today we have one of my favorites for our Artist Feature!! Check out Sahsha Kochanowicz from Rubylee Photography! What I love about Sahsha work is that it’s so relatable! She does a fantastic job documenting day life. Here images are breathtaking and if you aren’t already follow Sahsha you should be! Now grab your cup of preference and enjoy catching up with your fellow photographer!

A little about Sahsha

I’m a mama to 5 littles and one more cooking… 🙂 We love to be doing fun outings, playing outdoors, or watching a movie. I’m a go-getter hands on gal- love my coffee, try to like reading (HA!), a good long hike, and crocheting are some favorite activities!

Can you tell us what photography means to you?

Photography for me is keeping memories freezing memories in time. I want to be able to capture the everyday little details up to the big moments – where they can be looked back on over and over for generations to come.

What Motivates and inspires you?

My children. Light. Connections.

Are you in business or a hobbyist?

Although I do some sessions, I only see myself as a hobbyist. 🙂

Can you share with us 5 of your favorite images and tell us why you love them so.

What I can say right off is the 5 I’ll choose as my favorites may change every day haha!! I just grow to love so many pictures that I have a hard time only have a few tops at any time… and the reason I’d love any is for the emotion, light, or moment that was captured for sure!

What’s in your camera bag?

Canon 6D, 50mm 1.4, 35.mm 2.0, 24-105mm L 4.0

Nikon D610, 35mm 1.8, lensbaby edge 80 & sweet 35

What does your editing process look like?

Well for me it’s my relaxing time when the kids are napping or in bed… a snack… computer… feet up! I love Tribe Archipelago preset package LXC and tweet a lot from many of those.. I also create my own presets that I use on a regular basis- pretty much my goal is to create natural and normal tones to exactly what the atmosphere the picture was taken originally for the majority of my photos.

Anything else you’d like us to know about you?

That if anyone ever has a question I’ll do my best to answer- ask away! I’m always up for coffee if you are in town and even some photo walking!

Artist Feature

Today we have Jacynthe from Jacynthe Photography for our artist feature! I have noticed Jacynthe’s work through our weekly themes for the past year and I love her work. Grab your preferred cup and take a break from the day catching up with one of your fellow photographers.

A little about Jacynthe

My name is Jacynthe Curtis.  I am French Canadian ( originally from Montréal, Québec) and married a cute American.  We live in beautiful Colorado.  I am a registered dental hygienist and started taking photography classes when I was in college, about 30 years ago.  French is my native language and I love to go back to Montréal to visit family every year.  I was blessed with 4 wonderful children and a crazy cat!

What does photography mean to you?

I love seeing and capturing everyday life. That is my favourite style of photography. I can appreciate posed photographs and I do take them as well, but to me capturing moments as they happen has so much more meaning. Photography allows me to remember moments I can easily forget. These images bring me back almost instantly.

What motivates and inspires you?

There are so many awesome photographers out there that inspire me to work harder and better. But still keeping it simple. I never use overlays, never make people skinner or put smiles where there weren’t any. Real life. And I love life so inspiration comes everyday in any form. There is something beautiful everywhere. You just have to look for it.

Are you in business or hobbyist?

While I don’t consider myself a professional photographer, I do sessions for friends and family. And the last 5 years have kept me busier than I ever hoped I would be. So grateful for their support and love!

Can you share with us 5 of your favorite images and tell us why you love them so.

I love when moms want to be in front of the camera. What a sweet moment I was able to capture here with amazing natural light!

These twins are so sweet and I’ve known them since they were babies. I was thrilled to have my wide angle with me that day. The Colorado Rockies in the background. I just love it!!!

DSC06791Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona. This was my niece. Honestly, this place always takes my breath away! You walk up to it and there are no gates or fences. I could sit there for hours. Love this place!!

What’s in your camera bag?

I am a Sony girl. I have a full frame camera – the a99. I use several lense depending on the occasion. I recently go the 85mm, 1.4 and love love love it! I mostly use the 70-200mm, 2.8 and 24-70mm, 2.8.

What does your editing process look like?

I always shoot in RAW and my editing process is simple and keeping it real. I never use actions or overlays. There is nothing wrong with using actions or overlays, it’s just not my style.

Light & Soul

Artist Feature

These week our artist feature is Jenn from Pretty Pixels Photography!! I just love Jenn’s work and her personality! She’s so supportive of her fellow photographers and exactly the type of photographer I love to feature! Enjoy catching up with Jenn and getting to know her a little better! Have a great week everyone!

A little about Jenn

Hi, my name is Jennifer (Jenn) Franzin. I am the face behind Pretty Pixels Photography and the co-founder of By He{Art}, a community of artists of all levels and skill sets. I am the proud momma to three amazing children (two little ladies & one wee man), a part time photographer/artist, dreamer, perpetual wanderer and lover of the natural world.

Can you tell us what photography means to you?

Wow, what a hard thing for me to have to put into words! I suppose the best way for me to describe what photography means to me is to say that it is a part of my soul and my being. Since I was a young child, I have always been captivated by what people could share through an image.

What motivates and inspires you?

I live for the real, raw, beautiful heart-filling moments. You know, the ones that take your breath away or make you stop for a moment and breathe in deep. I seek out the beauty that others too often miss. For example, the haunting beauty of an abandoned building, the way the leaves of a tree shimmers when the sun begins to set, the sweet perfection of a child as they sit watching the snow fall outside their window, or a new mom’s gaze at her newborn babe. This is but a few things that motivate and inspire me. There is just so much beauty and inspiration in this world once you open your mind and heart to it.

Are you in business or hobbyist?

I am purely a hobbyist at this time. I have done sessions on occasion for others, but in most recent months I have been honing my skills and shooting from my heart.

Can you share with us 5 of your favorite images and tell us why you love them so.

Honestly, I could never narrow it down to five images…LOL I truly love all of my images since the majority of what I choose to capture is my children and nature. I have chosen 5 of my current faves though that I have shot in the past 6 months.

The first image that I chose to share is one I took on a very dark and gloomy February day. I was in a dark head space missing the sunlight and feeling the dreaded artist’s block. Then Gods must have taken pity on me, this day as the sun decided to show it’s glorious face and peek through the clouds allowing me to capture the beauty below.

The second image I chose is also from the same day and this one really gives you that feeling of darkness and cold. I chose this one because the simplicity speaks to me. I love the curve of the leaf as it caresses that teeny, tiny, little blanket of snow. The leaf looks as though as if it is snuggled away under a blanket for warmth. Each time I see this image it takes me back to that exact moment and how I was feeling on that day.

The third image that I selected was shot just as dawn broke across the red pine trees in my backyard. The sun was so bright that day. I loved the way it sparkled on the snow and shone like fire across the sky. This image fills my soul with so much joy.

The fourth image that I selected to show you is a new love. I took this one only a few days ago. I was on a walk through the forest when out of the corner of my eye I caught something sparkling. I grabbed my camera and captured this beauty. I love the way that the leaf is curled up how it reflects the light and warmth of the sun. Even on these bitter cold winter days the sun still fights to provide warmth and beauty.

The fifth image is one that reflects my soul and love of trees. I edited this image in a way that speaks to me personally. I wanted this image to draw the viewer in and give you a feeling of warmth and solace. For me this image is one of the ones that I will hold in my heart forever.

What’s in your camera bag?

My camera bag would surprise a lot of people. My gear is pretty old by today’s standards in the industry, but I have always been of the mindset that it isn’t the gear, it’s the photographer and their vision that creates the art. I currently rotate between my Nikon D60 and my D3100. My go to lens is my 17-70mm. It’s all I ever use unless I am going to bring out the 70-300mm.

What does your editing process look like?

My editing process, let’s see…I import everything into Lightroom and do the majority of my editing in there. For the most part I use presets that I have previously created unless I have a specific vision for an image in which case I will hand edit it from start to finish. On occasion, I do pop on over to Photoshop but I have only recently been teaching myself different skills and techniques in there. It is one of my goals this year to learn even more.

Anything else you’d like us to know about you?

Hmmm, here are 5 random facts about me if you would like to have a chuckle.

I love toques, scarves and mittens. I literally have bags full of them.

I love Teavana. My go to drink is the maharaja chai oolong samurai chai mate.

I dream of going to Africa.

I want to kayak where the whales are and bask in their power and beauty.

I love road trips and would choose them over any other mode of transportation.
