I hope all are having a good start to the week and enjoy catching up with your fellow photographer!

A little about Amanda

I’m Amanda. I am first and foremost a mom to my 2 girls, Rylee (5) and Rowan (2); and wife to my husband TJ (for almost 10 years!). I shoot a little bit of everything, and love it all.

What does Photography mean to you?

What a loaded question right out of the gate! LOL I mean, when I am 70 years old, I am going to be soooo thankful for pursuing this career, if ONLY for the pictures and memories I will be holding tight of my children and family. I only hope I can give this same joy to other families as they grow and change throughout the years.

When did you start pursuing photography?

After my first daughter was born in 2010 I decided photography “looked easy enough” (hahahaha) so I talked my husband into buying me a camera. At the risk of sounding ridiculously cliche, once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down! I took classes, studied as many aspects and genres as my little brain could handle, and in 2014 decided to open up shop!

What motivates and inspires you?

They joy in creating an amazing photograph in the most simple, natural setting motivates me. Everything inspires me. I can’t go anywhere without noticing gorgeous light, or a fab new location option, or even a cool looking bug that would make a great macro!

Can you share with us a few of your favorite images and why you love them so much?

Of course!
I love me some hazy backlit images, so this engagement session was a dream.

I mean, the expression, the light, the bokeh. And we were just chatting about princesses. 😉
Snider 15 WM
This was a “me” shot during this session. Mom had lots of great props and ideas planned out for this 6 months sesh, but I wanted something simple and timeless (and the light coming through these trees was too much for me to resist!) And I was so happy to hear she loved this one!
Lincoln 13 WM
Ahhh this was voted “Favorite Image of 2014” on my FB page! I just LOVE it. The colors, the snuggly-ness lol. And this was one of my first newborn sessions so I’m super proud of it.

OK OK last one! Haha I couldn’t leave this out, and I’ll tell you why. I NEVER thought I’d be a studio photographer. I thought studio lighting was SO intimidating and complicated. It’s not, and it’s amazing. And it doesn’t let you down the way the weather does so often!

What advice would you give another photographer just starting up?

*Learn. Never stop learning. Learn things you don’t think you’ll even like, because you just might once you actually learn it!
*Get constructive criticism from your peers. Grow from what they tell you.
*And don’t forget why you love photography. Take time to shoot what you love from time to time and not just what pays the bills. 🙂

Nikon or Canon? Which lens is always attached to it?

Canon for life! Haha I currently use a 6D. I have been having a love affair with my Sigma 50mm 1.4 lately. It’s amazing in studio and on location. It rarely comes off unless I want to shoot Macro.

Lightroom or Photoshop? Both?

Actually I am an Elements user! I started out in it 5 years ago and I finally feel like I know it like the back of my hand. I like my layers too much for Lightroom. 🙂
