Weekly Artist Feature

This week our weekly artist feature is our guest judge Somer from Somer Hoffman Photography. She has chosen for us the theme “Smoke”. Can’t wait to see what you all make of it! Hope you all have a wonderful week and enjoy getting to know your fellow photographer.

A little about Somer

Somer here! I am a Mother of 3 incredible kiddos who keep me on my toes and  wife to one amzing supportive Husband.

So truly blessed, I am 🙂

Im very messy, unorganized and I worry too much, much too much. But, if you want to have some fun, Im your girl!! Sunshine makes me Happy but so does the rain and storms, they excite me! Did I just write a song? lol anyways 😉

What does photography mean to you?

I honestly dont know how I lived this long without it!  I studied Fashion design in College and have always had a passion for creating!  Photography has given me another way to express myself.  Its something I’ll never outgrow. It will always be challenging with new things to learn! Its quite dear to me. 🙂

When did you start pursuing photography?

I picked up my first DSLR in September of 2014. So, I still have lots of growing to do!  I couldn’t be more  excited for this journey!!

Its more than a passion now, Im addicted!

What motivates and inspires you?

I haven’t yet felt the need for motivation.  As my mind is always creating, its more of a need to release an overwhelming passion.  I have shot some proud photos “In the moment” Although, I love to create themed sessions or at least a mood.

As im sure most artists will say, Im inspired by the world and everything in it!

Can you share with us a few of your favorite images and why you love them so much?

Besides being inlove with Sunflares, It has gorgeous light! Its just magical to me. Also one of my favs because I took this photo within the first month of having my camera.

The flare, the fact that it was -0 degrees with the wind chill on this particular January Morning, and I love that she looks like she belongs to a different culture. Gives me a National Geographic feel.  I love lots of photos from this session…

This one is just dreamy. You think so too? Maybe its just me, The snow, the edit, my daughters green eyes. Like its straight out of a fairytale…

Love love LOVE the spooky feel and knowing how I created this image just makes it that much more unique.  My daughter is most def my lil muse. Those of you with daughter probably understand. She is “moody” which usually works.  Just dont ask her to smile 😉

What advice would you give another photographer just starting up?

In the begining, I felt so overwhelmed with all I had to learn. I didnt even know what aperture meant or all the numbers on my LCD screen. I feel I have came a long way in only 9 months!

Be eager, patient and never quit!!  Practice!!  You will most likely learn by doing, seeing and correcting.  Your only going to get better from here!!!

Nikon or Canon? What lens is always attached?

Canon 🙂 with my “Nifty Fifty” 1.8  Although, my all whether “underwater” is Nikon and it ROCKS!!

Lightroom or Photoshop? Both?

Lightroom…I will say that Photoshop is next on my to learn list in the photography world and I am so much looking forward to it!!
