A little about Mandie
My name is Mandie Clarke and I run M.L. Clarke Photography and am a family photographer. I am a happy wife and mother. There Aaron my adoring husband and Hannah age 7, Maxam age 5, and Ava age 4. I am a LOVER of antiques and old buildings. A LOVER of them!!!
What does photography mean to you?
To me photography means capturing a moment and infusing it with a piece of yourself. Taking a second of time and emotion and saving it forever.
When did you start pursuing photography?
I started the conventional process of black and white film photography about 11 years ago. I have since switched to digital, but still have a darkroom setup that I occasional sneak back to because I find it very therapeutic!
What motivates and inspires you?
As a family portrait mainly theses days, I find inspiration in the joy that my work brings my clients. Knowing I am blessed with the ability to create something that they can enjoy and pass down to future generations is both humbling and an amazing feeling.
Can you share with us a few of your favorite images and why you love them so?
These two portraits are my favorite because I really feel they captured the essence perfectly for each of the children, one sassy and incredibly difficult to keep up with, and then the quiet shy one who just happened to look up at me with pure honesty for a split second. The last is of my daughter holding a flower. Just how she protected it and nurtured it and enjoyed its beauty, She didn’t allow the fact that it would soon wither take away her joy from the moment, It was a great life lesson reminder to love what we have while we have it.
What advice do you have for another photographer just starting up?
DON’T compare your beginning to someones end. Go out and photograph. find what you love and do it, find what you don’t and change it, The only way to find your style is to go looking for it. I hate that I wasted so much time trying to be JUST like other photographers!
Nikon or Canon? What lens is always attached?
I am a Canon girl. Not really because I feel its superior or anything its just what I learned on and am comfortable with. I currently us the Canon 24-105mm f4. It is a great walk around lens and also has the compression that I LOVE at 105mm for my portraits.
Lightroom or Photoshop? Both?
I use both sometimes but do most of my editing in photoshop so I can have more control with selective editing with layers and masks.
