A little bit about Jess
My name is Jess Van Wyck
I’m a mom to 3 children and 2 yappy dogs. I work full time as a registered nurse in childbirth and in my free time I’m a maternity, newborn and children’s photographer.
Can you tell us what photography means to you?
Photography is a method for me to share those emotions I feel when I watch people. Being a shy person, I have always been a people watcher. If you look beyond the physical, you can see that people’s souls are not so deep inside them. They are just beneath the surface. I’m obsessed with finding a way to capture who’s under the surface and capturing relationships and love.
What motivates and inspires you?
My inspiration has always been my children, and quite often my work. I enjoy everything about newborns, from their toes to their tiny noses. I love watching my maternity clients become mothers. It’s such a miraculous change in a persons life, and I love being in the presence of such love. Children inspire me through their absolute innocence and wonder in this world. They’re always entertaining and sweet.
Are you in business or hobbyist?
I am a business. Part time when I’m not working.
Can you share with us 5 of your favorite images and tell us why you love them so.
What is in your camera bag?
I use a Nikon D7000 with either my 35mm lens or 18-105mm lens. Hoping to someday upgrade to other lens’s and a full frame camera, but alas life is expensive with 3 kids!!
What does your editing process look like?
I edit using Photoshop elements for now. I do use some presets, but not always.
Anything else you’d like us to know about you?
I’m always learning. I’m hoping to have time for some more practice this year both with my camera and with editing processes.
