A little about Alicia
Hi! My name is Alicia Sykes. I am from Tampa, FL but currently reside in Alabama. When I was 13 I wanted to be a model and be on the other end of the camera. It was just recently that I have enjoyed being on the other side as a photographer. I got my first DSLR camera a year ago from my husband for Mother’s Day.
Can you tell us what photography means to you?
Photography is an art to me. It is an outlet for creativity. I love how a picture can turn into something emotional, powerful, or controversial. A picture is worth a thousand words.
What motivates and inspires you?
Several photographers motivate and inspire me. When I was taking a photography class we had to do this project on a photographer who inspired us. I did some research and came across Ivette Ivens and I was just blown away by her creativeness and beauty in her images of moms breastfeeding their babies. She turned something controversial into art and beauty. She motivates and inspires me! I also think Pinterest has a lot of motivating images and sparks my creative side. 🙂
Are you in busniess or a hobbyist?
At the moment I would classify myself as a hobbyist. I am a mom to a toddler and he has me busy all the time. I do take on clients but I do it on the side.
Can you share with us 5 of your favorite images and tell us why you love them so.
I love the first image because it is of a mom in labor. I love how I was able to capture this moment before birth.
The second image made my list because I was very proud of my creative side in the editing process. That was not the original sky
The third image is a favorite because it is my Ivette Ivens inspired picture. This young lady was about to give up on breastfeeding but didn’t and her daughter nursed for almost 2 years. This was a huge accomplishment for her and she wanted some pictures before her daughter weaned.
The forth image is a favorite because who does not like a baby’s bum in the sand???
The last image made the list because I saw this picture in my hotel room and I really wanted to recreate it. This is Washington DC.
What’s in your camera bag?
I have a DSLR Canon Camera EOS Rebel T3i.
I have a Canon 50mm lens, Sigme 24-70mm, and a Canon 18-55mm.
I also have a frog Camera Creature. The children love it!
What does your editing process look like?
At the moment my editing process is taking pictures in RAW, doing some touchups, and editing with Greater Than Gatsby actions! I love their actions! My favorite thing to do is to add sun flare and enhance the sky!
